I remember the first time I tried a matcha latte. I was in Kyoto, Japan, wandering through a traditional tea house when the barista suggested it. The vibrant green color intrigued me, and the first sip was a revelation—a smooth, slightly bitter, yet subtly sweet flavor that was unlike anything I'd tasted before. Fast forward a few years, and I'm now completely obsessed. That said, I also adore chai lattes, especially during the colder months. So, one day, while pondering (as one does) over my ever-growing collection of teas, a thought struck me: why not combine the two?
The result? A Matcha Chai Fusion Latte that's both comforting and invigorating. The earthy notes of the matcha beautifully complement the warm spices of the chai, creating a balanced and complex flavor profile. Trust me, it's a game changer! Whether you're a seasoned tea enthusiast or just looking for a new and exciting drink to try, this recipe is for you. And don't worry, it's super easy to make at home. I'll walk you through each step, so you can whip up your own Matcha Chai Fusion Latte in no time. It's honestly one of my favorite things to make now! One tippp: make sure you have good quality matcha. The flavour is really different when you use the cheap stuff; trust me, I learned that the hard way!
Plus, it's packed with antioxidants and other good-for-you stuff. Matcha is known for its ability to provide sustained energy without the jitters, while chai spices like cinnamon and ginger have anti-inflammatory properties. It's basically a super drink disguised as a cozy latte. I sometimes add a little dash of honey if I am really having a sweet tooth; just make sure to taste it first to make sure you need it! Okay, enough chat; let's get brewin'!

📖 Instructions
Gather your ingredients: You'll need matcha powder, chai tea bags (or loose leaf chai), milk (dairy or non-dairy), sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or sugar), and hot water.
Brew the chai: Steep the chai tea bag (or loose leaf chai) in 1/2 cup of hot water for about 5-7 minutes. The longer it steeps, the stronger the chai flavor will be. Remove the tea bag or strain the loose leaf chai. I use loose leaf; I find you get more of a kick!
Prepare the matcha: In a separate mug, whisk 1 teaspoon of matcha powder with 2 tablespoons of hot water until it forms a smooth, frothy paste. Make sure there are no clumps! A bamboo whisk (chasen) works best, but a regular whisk will do in a pinch. Honestly though, treat yourself to a bamboo one! I got mine for like, £3.
Heat the milk: In a saucepan or microwave, heat 1 cup of milk until it's warm but not boiling. If using a saucepan, whisk the milk occasionally to prevent a skin from forming. If using a microwave, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, to avoid scalding. Alternatively, you could use a milk frother to heat and froth the milk at the same time, which I honestly do the majority of the time.
Combine the chai and matcha: Pour the brewed chai tea into the mug with the matcha paste. Stir well to combine.
Add the milk: Gently pour the warm milk into the mug, leaving a little room at the top for foam (if desired).
Sweeten to taste: Add your preferred sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or sugar) to the latte and stir until dissolved. Adjust the amount to your liking. Some people like more; some like less. Depends on the kinda day I'm having, tbqh.
Froth (optional): If you have a milk frother, froth a little extra milk and spoon it over the top of the latte.
Garnish (optional): Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or matcha powder on top of the latte for an extra touch of flavor and presentation. You can also add a star anise. Looks really pretty, I promise!
Serve and enjoy: Sip slowly and savor the delightful fusion of matcha and chai! This is the best bit! Trust me, it is a hug in a mug.
