Let's face it, sometimes you just need a little something cheesy, and you need it fast. One of my fondest memories is when i was at collage studying for my exams in my dorm. I would have to cook up something extremely fast to get back to hitting the books as soon as possible. That’s where the magic of mac and cheese in a mug comes in. It's not just a recipe; its a lifeline for busy bees, students burning the midnight oil, and anyone who wants a hug in a mug, basically. Why dirty a whole pot when all you need is one satisfying serving?

🍽 Ingredients

📖 Instructions

  1. Grab your favorite mug: Any standard-size coffee mug (about 12-16 ounces) will work perfectly.
  2. Add the pasta: Place 1/4 cup of elbow macaroni (or any small pasta shape) into the mug.
  3. Water time: Pour in 1/2 cup of water. Make sure the pasta is mostly submerged.
  4. Microwave power: Pop the mug into the microwave and cook on high for 2-3 minutes. Cooking times vary by microwave, so keep an eye on it. The pasta should be cooked through, and most of the water should be absorbed. If there's still too much water, microwave in 30-second intervals until it's gone, be careful not to over cook the pasta.
  5. Cheese, please: Add 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese blend), 1 tablespoon of milk (any kind will do), and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  6. Stir it up: Mix everything together until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy. If the cheese isn't melting, microwave for another 10-15 seconds.
  7. Time to get fancy (optional): If you’re feeling adventurous, sprinkle a little paprika or some breadcrumbs on top.
  8. Enjoy immediatley: Carefully remove from the microwave (the mug will be hot!) and enjoy your single-serving mac & cheese masterpiece! Be sure to let it cool if you cannot handle the heat.

📝 Notes

  • For a creamier texture, add a small pat of butter along with the milk.
  • Experiment with different cheeses! Gruyere, Monterey Jack, or even a sprinkle of parmesan can add unique flavors.
  • Add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
