how to find coachella's secret parties

By Willow Wren

Published: 10 May 2025

So, Coachella. The music, the fashion, the… secret parties? Yeah, let's talk about those. Last year, my friend, let's call her Daisy, swore she stumbled into a legendary after-party hosted by a major DJ. I’m still trying to figure out exactly how she managed it, but the photos… wow. This year, I’m determined to crack the code. No more FOMO for me! And because I’m nice, I’m sharing my intel with you.

Decoding the Coachella Buzz: Where to Start Your Hunt

First things first: forget relying on official announcements. Secret parties thrive on the element of surprise. Your best bet is to tap into the Coachella grapevine. I'm talking insider info, the kind you get from friends-of-friends, maybe a well-placed Instagram DM (yes, really).

  • Social Media Sleuthing: Dive deep into Instagram, Twitter, and even TikTok. Search relevant hashtags like #CoachellaSecrets, #CoachellaAfterparties, #CoachellaHiddenGems. Look beyond the obvious—pay attention to comments, stories, and posts from influencers known to be in the know. Don't be afraid to slide into the DMs of people who seem to have the inside scoop (politely, of course!).
  • Word of Mouth is King (or Queen): This is where networking truly shines. If you know anyone remotely connected to the music scene, hit them up! You'd be surprised how easily information spreads at events like this.
  • Download Some Apps: I discovered some pretty cool party-finding apps that locals use. I wish I could tell you their names but...well, secrets are supposed to remain secrets, aren't they? ;)
  • Be Observant at the Festival: Keep your ears open during the main Coachella sets. Artists or DJs might casually drop hints about their plans.

Mastering the Art of the 'Casual Inquiry'

Let's be honest, directly asking "Hey, know any secret parties?" might get you a blank stare or, worse, laughed at. It's about subtlety, my friends. It's about making those casual connections. Try this:

  • Engage in Conversation: Talk to people you meet at the festival. Ask about their experiences, their favorite acts. Get to know them. You never know who might spill the beans! It worked for me last year at a smaller festival--I wound up with a free backstage pass! ;)
  • Become a Coachella Insider (Sort Of): Try to look the part. Don't wear your grandma's floral print, but be smart about it! The right outfit is a conversation starter. People are more likely to share intel if they feel a connection. I've found that if I look like I might belong, I fit in!

Coachella isn't just about the main stage. There are countless smaller events going on all around. Keep an eye out for:

  • Hotel Pool Parties: Hotels often host private events. These can range from official parties to more intimate gatherings, so keep an eye on any official social media accounts!
  • Rooftop Bars: Some of the best rooftop bars are exclusive and by-invite only. So, keep an eye out for those!
  • Private Villas and Airbnbs: Some of the most luxurious and exclusive parties happen at private villas and Airbnbs. Keep your eyes open. I will probably not go into details on how I found this info out, but yeah, I found it!
  • Don't Be Afraid to Explore: Explore the city beyond the festival grounds. Sometimes, the best parties are hidden in plain sight. And sometimes, well, they aren’t.

The Dos and Don'ts of Coachella's Underground

  • Do: Be respectful of the venue and the people around you.
  • Do: Have fun—this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
  • Don't: Get too wasted or out of control! Remember this is a festival and you want to have a good time.
  • Don't: Assume every event is a 'secret party.' Some are just regular gatherings or events.
  • Don't: Be a creeper! Respect people's privacy.
