Oh my goodness, you guys, spring is HERE! And with it comes the undeniable urge to ditch the winter blues and embrace all things bright, colorful, and wonderfully messy. Preschoolers, bless their little hearts, seem to share this sentiment with a passion I can only describe as adorable. This year, I decided to ditch the screen time and unleash the creative chaos with my little nephew, Leo. Let's just say there were glitter explosions, paint splatters that defied gravity, and more giggles than I could possibly count. And you know what? It was AMAZING. This post is all about sharing the springtime craft fun we had, and hopefully inspiring you to create some magical memories with your little ones too!
Before we dive in, a disclaimer: my kitchen looks like a Jackson Pollock painting exploded in it. You've been warned! 😉

We started with something relatively tame (relatively being the key word here). I took Leo on a little nature walk and we collected an array of pretty spring flowers – daisies, buttercups, tiny violets… the works. We gently pressed these beauties between sheets of newspaper inside some heavy books. Once they were dried (a day or two later… patience is a virtue!), we used them as stencils for some seriously cute flower paintings! This was a great activity for developing fine motor skills, as well as for appreciation of nature’s beauty! (Plus, it was so much less messy than I anticipated! We had a win there!)

Forget the dyes and the boiling water! We opted for a super simple method that involved plain white eggs (we hard-boiled them first, of course!), colorful markers, and some glitter glue. Leo loved decorating the eggs, and it was far less stressful than trying to manage a messy dye process. We made some adorable little bunny faces and some super funky patterned eggs. Next year, maybe, we'll try the mess...

Paper plates are the unsung hero of preschool crafts, am I right? We transformed some plain old paper plates into vibrantly colored butterflies with paint, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and glitter (of course!). The cutting and gluing were a great way for Leo to practice his scissor skills, and let's face it, anything with glitter is a guaranteed success in the preschool craft world. Plus, the finished butterflies looked absolutely gorgeous hanging from our window!
Tip: Lay down a large sheet of newspaper to prevent a craft-related disaster. Trust me on this one!

This wasn't technically a craft, but it was a super fun spring activity nonetheless! We planted some sunflower seeds in small pots, and Leo loved watching them sprout. He's already taking ownership of them, watering them daily (sometimes a little too enthusiastically, but hey, at least he's helping!), and eagerly awaiting the day they bloom. This was not only a great learning experience but also a lesson in patience and responsibility. Plus, it's always heartwarming to see a little one care for something so tenderly.

Look, I'm not going to lie, there was a moment or two where I wanted to rip my hair out in the midst of all that glitter. (Glitter. Is. The. Enemy.) But even with the occasional mini-meltdown (mostly mine, not Leo's), the whole experience was utterly magical. Watching Leo's face light up as he created something beautiful, his little hands working hard, his focus intense– it reminded me of the simple joys of childhood. It was worth every single glitter speck!
