Let's be honest, folks. I'm not exactly a gamer. I'm more of a...enthusiastic observer. But when my nephew, Timmy, gifted me a Nintendo Switch for my birthday (I still haven't figured out what he used for wrapping paper…looked like a grocery bag?), I decided to dive in. The first thing I did? Grabbed that Nintendo Switch Online membership. Seemed like the smart thing to do, right? I mean, what's the point of having a fancy console and not using its full potential?
That said, I soon realized...that this was akin to buying a top of the line grill for your summer BBQs and only using it once a year. It's a good grill. But why is it sitting there gathering dust?
This post is for those of you, like me, who have invested in a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and want to make sure you are squeezing every last drop of fun out of it!

The main draw for most people – myself included – is access to the classic NES and SNES game libraries. Think of it like having a time machine for your thumbs! I was surprised by how many titles they have! I've always loved Zelda, so this was great. But honestly, the vast selection can be a bit overwhelming. To get the most out of this feature, make a list, my friends! Write down the games you've always wanted to play, or those iconic titles you missed out on back in the day. Prioritize! You won't be able to beat all the classics overnight, so start with your must-plays and work your way through the catalog.

This is where things get interesting. My nephew Timmy has been dragging me into online battles in Mario Kart. Let's just say, he's more merciful than he lets on. He may pretend to be evil, but he actually does let me win some rounds. It’s chaotic fun! But also frustrating. I've learned that having a good internet connection is key, and understanding the controls helps too! Practice makes perfect, right? You might be tempted to hop into those online lobbies and only play certain games, like Splatoon 3. But the variety is the true spice of life! Try a few games you might not usually play. You might find your new favorite multiplayer experience.

This might sound insignificant, but the cloud saves are a lifesaver! I had one particularly frustrating session where I lost all my progress in Animal Crossing. It was terrible. Let’s just say I had a good rant about it to my nephew. He said I should have used the cloud saving feature...and that I should've read the instructions. Don't be like me. Make sure you enable cloud saves! It's a small step that could save you hours of heartache. Trust me on this one.

Nintendo Switch Online also offers some extra perks like exclusive in-game content and special offers. Sometimes there are limited-time promotions that you can grab. But you have to keep an eye out for them! Be on the lookout for announcements from Nintendo. It is worth checking the official Nintendo website. Who knows? You may find something that suits your taste. Think of it as extra value for your subscription!

Look, I may not be a hardcore gamer, but I'm getting a whole lot more out of my Nintendo Switch Online membership than I initially expected. It's not just about playing old games, but discovering new ones and enhancing my gaming experiences. And trust me, those cloud saves are invaluable. So, take my advice; check out the classics, jump into the multiplayer mayhem, and remember to utilize the perks. That is all.
