Why I'm Obsessed with This Korean Cleansing Method

Okay, picture this: me, battling what felt like a never-ending war against stubborn blackheads and dull skin. I tried everything! Scrubs that felt like sandpaper (ouch!), fancy masks that promised the world but delivered… well, nothing much. Sound familiar? Then, a friend—bless her soul—suggested I look into Korean skincare. I was skeptical, I’ll admit. Another trend? Another waste of money? But desperate times, right?

And honestly? It changed. Everything. My. Skin.

The Double Cleanse Revelation

The key? The double cleanse. It’s exactly what it sounds like: cleansing your face… twice. I know, I know, it sounds excessive. But trust me on this. The first cleanse uses an oil-based cleanser (more on that later) to remove makeup, sunscreen, and all that oily gunk that builds up during the day. Think of it as melting away the bad stuff. Then, you follow up with a water-based cleanser to wash away any remaining residue and actually clean your pores. It's such a unique method – I was so surprised when I tried it.

Why Oil Cleansing is a Game Changer (I Swear!)

I was totally weirded out by the thought of putting oil on my face. I mean, wouldn’t that make things worse? Turns out, oil attracts oil. So, an oil-based cleanser gently lifts away excess sebum, makeup (even the waterproof stuff!), and pollutants without stripping your skin dry. It’s like magic, I tell ya! I did notice a significant improvement after just a few days!

Finding the Right Cleansers: My Holy Grails

Okay, so what do I actually use? This is where it gets fun! There are SO many amazing Korean cleansing products out there. It took a bit of experimenting, but these are my current faves:

  • Oil Cleanser: The Banila Co Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm. It's gentle, effective, and smells amazing. This melts onto the skin and washes away all my makeup and even sunscreen.
  • Water-Based Cleanser: The COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser. It's super gentle and doesn't leave my skin feeling tight or dry. It lathers up nicely and leaves my skin feeling refreshed.

Disclaimer: Everyone’s skin is different. What works for me might not work for you, so it’s always best to do a patch test before slathering anything new all over your face.

My Double Cleanse Routine: Step-by-Step (It’s Easier Than You Think!)

Ready to dive in? Here’s my super simple routine:

  1. Dry Skin, Dry Hands: Start with dry skin and dry hands. Seriously, don't wet your face first!
  2. Massage Oil Cleanser: Take a generous amount of your oil cleanser and gently massage it onto your face in circular motions for about a minute. Focus on areas where you wear a lot of makeup or have blackheads.
  3. Emulsify: Add a little water to your hands and continue massaging. The oil cleanser will turn milky (that's called emulsifying!).
  4. Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  5. Apply Water-Based Cleanser: Apply a pea-sized amount of your water-based cleanser to your wet face.
  6. Massage and Rinse: Gently massage it into your skin and then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  7. Pat Dry: Gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Don't rub!

And that’s it! Follow with your favorite serums, moisturizers, and all that good stuff. I did notice that I started using less product in general once my skin was cleaner!

My Honest Results: Prepare to Be Amazed

Okay, I’m not gonna lie – I was skeptical at first. But after just a few weeks of double cleansing, I noticed a HUGE difference.

  • My pores look smaller: Seriously, those pesky blackheads on my nose? Almost gone!
  • My skin is brighter: I have this healthy glow now that I haven’t seen in years. Seriously, I feel so much more confident going makeup-free.
  • My skin is softer: My skin feels like a baby's bum. Seriously! So smooth and supple.
  • Less breakouts: Knock on wood! Since I started double cleansing, my breakouts have been way less frequent and less severe.

I am definitely recommending this to all my friends, and my mom loves it too now!

Is Double Cleansing Right for YOU?

Okay, so here’s the deal: double cleansing isn’t for everyone. If you have super dry or sensitive skin, you might want to start slow and see how your skin reacts. You might also want to use a milder oil cleanser. But honestly? I think everyone can benefit from it to some degree. Even if you don’t wear makeup, the double cleanse can help remove sunscreen, dirt, and pollution that accumulates throughout the day.

So, what are you waiting for? Give it a try! You might just find your new skincare obsession.
