Choosing panniers can feel like choosing a bike – overwhelming! But it doesn't have to be. Let's break it down. There are three main types:
What's right for you? Consider your typical riding conditions and how much gear you need to carry.

Panniers are usually measured in liters. I usually stick with around 30-40 liters total. More than that gets a little unwieldy, especially on twisty roads. Think about your typical rides. Daily commutes? Weekend trips? Multi-day adventures? The more adventurous you are, the more capacity you might need. But seriously, don't overestimate! Packing light is crucial. Remember those minimalist packing cubes? They're your friend. Also, consider the size of your rack; make sure the panniers will actually fit!

Before buying anything, ensure your bike has a rear rack. Most panniers are attached using a hook system that's compatible with most standard racks. However, check the pannier's specifications to confirm compatibility with your rack's design. Loose or poorly attached panniers are a recipe for disaster, especially at higher speeds. Double-check every buckle, strap and clip before you even think about rolling! You don't want your precious cargo flying into traffic!

Okay, here's where I share my somewhat biased opinions (based on years of biking and many a spilled coffee!). I'm not going to name specific brands, but let's talk about some must-have features and the type of rider that each works for. Do some research, compare prices and read reviews! I've linked some articles to get you started.
Don't just buy the first shiny thing you see. Consider your needs, riding style, and budget before committing. After all, you want these to last!
