Sydney's Best Brunches: Weekend Must-Tries (Updated February 15, 2025)

Oh, weekend brunches in Sydney! Let me tell you, they're legendary. I mean, legendary. I've spent more weekends than I care to admit hopping from cafe to cafe, battling for tables, and generally just indulging in the glorious chaos that is Sydney's brunch scene. And I'm finally ready to share my hard-earned wisdom with you, my fellow brunch enthusiast. So grab your mimosa (or coffee, no judgment here!), and let's dive into the deliciousness.

This isn't just some list I threw together. Oh no, my friend. This is a labor of love, born from countless weekends spent perfecting my brunch game. We're talking about places that'll leave you saying 'Wow, that was incredible!' (Followed by a food coma, possibly.)

Bills - Darlinghurst: The OG Brunch Spot

Okay, let's start with the big daddy of Sydney brunches: Bills. I know, I know, everyone recommends Bills. But there's a reason for that. Their ricotta hotcakes are actually as good as the hype says. Fluffy, light, perfectly sweet – they're the epitome of brunch perfection. Seriously, get the hotcakes. You won't regret it. I've been going for years and I still get them. The atmosphere is always buzzing, so be prepared to wait for a table, especially on weekends. But trust me, it's worth it. They also have amazing coffee, which is crucial, right? Don't miss out on their breakfast burger either – a seriously satisfying option.

Pancakes on the Rocks - Various Locations: A Sydney Institution

Pancakes on the Rocks is another Sydney institution. A classic for a reason. While some might think it's a tourist trap, honestly? I've had some truly excellent meals there. Their menu is extensive, which is a win for indecisive brunch-goers like myself. They have everything from sweet pancakes to savory options, making it perfect for the group that can never decide. One important thing: I found the location in the city center to be really crowded. But, the one in Bondi was a little less crazy. So try to go to a less popular spot! The portion sizes are generous, so come hungry! My advice? Order the choc-top pancakes, and prepare for pure sugary bliss.

Sonoma Bakery - Surry Hills: The Bread Lovers Brunch

For those of you who appreciate the finer things in life (like truly amazing bread), Sonoma Bakery in Surry Hills is a must-visit. I mean seriously, this place is something else. The bread here is crafted with so much passion; their pastries are divine, and they offer some incredible brunch dishes that really showcase the quality of their ingredients. My personal fave? The sourdough toast with avocado and poached eggs. Simple, but so perfectly executed. It’s a perfect place to slow down and enjoy the smaller moments in life. It's a little more on the pricey side, but for a special occasion, or just a treat yourself day, it’s worth it.

Reuben Hills - Newtown: Coffee Connoisseurs Rejoice!

If you're a coffee snob (like me!), Reuben Hills in Newtown is calling your name. Okay, their coffee is next level. Seriously, some of the best I've ever had. But, their brunch menu is also pretty awesome; I'm still dreaming about their shakshuka. It's the perfect mix of spicy, savory, and oh-so-satisfying. The atmosphere is super cool and a little hipster-ish, which I liked. The place is a little noisy, though. So, keep that in mind if you're not a fan of noisy environments. That said, its totally worth it!

Bonus Tip: Make a Reservation!

Let's be honest, Sydney's best brunch spots are popular for a reason. So, if you want to avoid a lengthy wait, making a reservation is highly recommended, especially on weekends. Most places allow you to book online these days, making the process super easy. Trust me, your tastebuds (and your patience) will thank you.
