How to Elevate Your Outfit with Tips from Fashion Bloggers

Ever feel like your outfit's missing that certain je ne sais quoi? I get it! We all have those days when we stare into our closets and feel utterly uninspired. One day last week, I was feeling particularly blah. I had a coffee date with an old friend, and everything I tried on just felt... ordinary. So, I did what any self-respecting fashion enthusiast would do: I turned to my favorite fashion blogs for a little inspo.

And let me tell you, the internet didn't disappoint! I discovered some seriously game-changing tips that completely transformed my look. I thought I'd put together this post sharing my findings, so you can ditch the fashion ruts and start rocking outfits that make you feel amazing. Let's dive in, shall we?

1. The Power of the Perfect Accessory

  • Statement Jewelry: Forget dainty necklaces; think bold earrings, chunky bracelets, and eye-catching rings. I recently invested in a pair of oversized gold hoops from a local artisan (they're so lightweight, you wouldn't believe it!), and they instantly make any outfit feel more polished. I even wore it to my friend's cocktail party and I recieved lots of compliments and everyone thought I spent a fortune. Check out Etsy!

  • Scarves: Don't underestimate the versatility of a scarf! Tie it around your neck, your handbag handle, or even wear it as a headscarf for a touch of vintage glam. Pro-tip: silk scarves are your best friend – they elevate your look without costing a fortune.

  • Belts: Cinching your waist with a belt is the easiest way to define your silhouette and add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. I found a vintage belt at a flea market last summer. You can use any belt that works for you, like using a simple black belt over a flowy dress to instantly make it look more structured and chic. For example, A friend of mine found a designer belt at a thrift store for just $5! She wears it to work or on weekends for that extra edge.

2. Layering Like a Pro

Layering isn't just for warmth; it's an art form! Mastering the art of layering can turn a simple outfit into something spectacular. One trick I learned from my favorite fashion blogger is to play with textures and lengths. A classic example is a denim jacket over a cable-knit sweater, paired with a long skirt, this look has a great mix of textures and lengths. It’s unexpected and visually appealing.

  • The Classic Combo: A blazer over a t-shirt is always a winning combo. But don't be afraid to experiment with different blazer styles – an oversized boyfriend blazer, a fitted velvet blazer, or even a bold colored blazer can instantly transform your look.

  • The Cardigan Trick: Layer a long cardigan over a dress or jumpsuit for a cozy yet chic look. This is my go-to trick for those days when I want to be comfortable but still look put-together. Last winter, I found this gorgeous burgundy cardigan on clearance and its been a lifesaver. Throw on a pair of boots, and you're good to go!

3. Shoe Savvy: The Right Footwear Can Make or Break an Outfit

It's true, shoes can really change an outfit. Choosing the right footwear can instantly elevate your entire ensemble. While comfort is important, don't underestimate the power of a stylish shoe to add personality and pizzazz to your look. One of my friends wore sneakers to her wedding and she was comfortable all day and night!
  • Statement Shoes: A pair of colorful heels, embellished flats, or edgy boots can instantly take your outfit from basic to bombastic! Recently, I splurged on a pair of bright red ankle boots, and they've become my go-to for adding a pop of color to any outfit. I wore it on the weekend with a simple jeans and tshirt outfit and everyone commented on how much they loved them!

  • The Versatile Sneaker: Sneakers are no longer just for the gym. A sleek pair of white sneakers can be paired with everything from jeans and a t-shirt to a dress or skirt for a casual yet chic vibe. I bought a pair of Superga sneakers last year and I wear them everywhere!

4. Color Confidence: Don't Be Afraid to Experiment

Color is your friend! Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and experiment with different color combinations. I know it can be intimidating to try new colors, but trust me, it's worth it! I used to stick to neutral colors like black, white, and gray, but I recently started incorporating more color into my wardrobe, and it's been a game-changer!
  • Color Blocking: Pair two or more contrasting colors together for a bold and eye-catching look. Some popular color blocking combinations include blue and yellow, pink and green, and red and purple. Have fun with it!

  • Monochromatic Magic: Rocking a monochromatic outfit (wearing different shades of the same color) is a simple yet stylish way to make a statement. Try wearing different shades of blue for a cool and calming look, or different shades of pink for a fun and flirty vibe. Last year during valentines day, I wore a pink dress with pink heals and everyone said I looked like barbie.

5. The Importance of Fit and Tailoring

Even the most expensive clothes can look cheap if they don't fit properly. Investing in tailoring is one of the best things you can do for your wardrobe. A well-fitted garment can instantly elevate your look and make you feel more confident. When I first started to shop in my teens, I never paid attention to the fit. I was more concerned about the brand. But the more I started to buy nicer clothes, the more I started to pay attention to the fit. It really does make all the difference.

  • Know Your Measurements: Knowing your measurements is essential for finding clothes that fit well. Take your measurements at home or get professionally measured at a tailor shop. Keep a record of your measurements so you can easily refer to them when shopping online or in stores.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Alter: If you find a piece of clothing that you love but it doesn't fit perfectly, don't be afraid to have it altered. A good tailor can work wonders!

Bonus Tip: Confidence is Key!

Ultimately, the most important thing you can wear is confidence. No matter what you're wearing, if you feel good about yourself, you'll look good too! So, rock that outfit with pride, and don't be afraid to express your unique style. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I don't have the confidence to pull an outfit off. But when I know I look good, I feel good and that really comes across.

So, what does this mean for you? Are you gonna take all these tips and become a fashion icon? I hope so! Fashion should be fun and experimental. So go out there and try on some new colors. And remember, the most important thing is to be yourself and own your unique style!
