šŸ“– Instructions

  1. Get Ready: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Make sure the rack is in the center.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup (1 stick) of softened unsalted butter and ½ cup of granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. I find its easier if the butter isn't too melted.
  3. Add Brown Sugar and Vanilla: Add ½ cup of packed brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the creamed butter and sugar. Mix until well combined. The mixture should look smooth and smell divine! Dont skip the vanilla, its a game changer.
  4. Incorporate Egg: Beat in one large egg until fully incorporated. Make sure there are no streaks of egg yolk left in the mixture.
  5. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. This ensures the baking soda and salt are evenly distributed.
  6. Gradual Mixing: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; overmixing can lead to tough cookies. You want it to look like its jsut about to all come together and then stop.
  7. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips (or more, if you're feeling generous!). Make sure they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  8. Drop by Tablespoons: Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie to allow for spreading. I sometime use a cookie scoop to make sure theyre all the same size
  9. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft. Keep a close eye on them; baking times may vary depending on your oven. Also make sure youre using a good baking sheet so that the bottom doesnt burn.
  10. Cooling Time: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. If you can resist, that is!
  11. Enjoy: Serve and enjoy with a glass of milk, a cup of coffee, or all on their own. These cookies are best enjoyed fresh!

šŸ“ Notes

  • For chewier cookies, slightly underbake them. If you prefer crispier cookies, bake them a minute or two longer.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
